Unfortunately, due to lack of funding, the library had to end the Open Access Fund. Here are a few alternatives that might be helpful:
- Ask your department administration. We know that some fellows and faculty have received funding this way.
- Submit to a non-OA journal which generally does not charge an author fee. Of course, it means that your article will not be immediately available upon publication but many journals (OA and non-OA) allow authors to deposit the pre-print (before peer-review) or even the post-print (after peer-review but not the final published pdf) to a repository.
- The library maintains an institutional repository, CU Anschutz Digital Collections, and we'd be happy to accept your paper. You can view the repository here: https://digitalcollections.cuanschutz.edu/. Also, many non-OA journals will open articles up after an embargo period of so many months, 6, 12, perhaps more. The library can help you identify an appropriate publication for submission of your article.
- Depending on the OA journal, you may be eligible for a waiver or discount. Look at the fine print for this information. If you'd like us to look it over, please send us the name of the journal you are considering.
- There are a growing number (though still small) of OA journals that charge no fees. You can check the DOAJ (Dir of OA journals) https://doaj.org . In the box in the top right, add your search terms, on the left, filter by Journals, then filter by Article Processing Charge.
If you would like to discuss OA publishing opportunities or resources, you can always request a consultation with a librarian using the AskUs form, which can be found at this link.
