Question:

Oxford English Dictionary subscription

Details:

Can the HSL subscribe to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED.com). There have been a couple times when I've been interested in the etymology of a medical term in order for me to better remember obscure words but I've been frustrated with online searches to find the word etymology / root / derivation. Or is this already available in an online or physical copy of a medical dictionary to which the HSL is already subscribed?

Answer:

Thank you for contacting us regarding medical dictionaries.  We do have access to a few dictionaries and classifications.

Here is a list of those resources:

For your needs, the Stedman's medical dictionary (http://proxy.hsl.ucdenver.edu/login?url=http://online.statref.com/dictionaryhelp.aspx?type=dictionary&grpalias=CU) may be a good resource to look up.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks!
