Hello Dr. Solomon,
Thank you for sharing your feedback on the Banned Book display in the library. We are thrilled you noticed it and took the time to engage with the display.
The books you see listed on the whiteboard represent the American Library Association’s (ALA) Most Challenged Books of 2022, and each book image notes ALA as it’s source. Based on your feedback, we will add a source note to the bottom of the display as well. For your information, you can find the 2022 list here along with the reasons for the books being challenged: https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks/top10.
Additionally, you can find the last 20+ years of archived lists on the ALA site: https://www.ala.org/advocacy/bbooks/frequentlychallengedbooks/top10/archive. As you pointed out, in the last several years a disproportionate number of the titles have been challenged for their LGBTQ+ content.
