Question:
Can we please get some more fans? The smaller rooms are so hot, and sometimes have an odor from the people before you.

Answer:
Thank you for your comment.
We understand that temperature and odors in the study rooms can affect your experience, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
To help with airflow and reduce lingering odors, the library has tried keeping study room doors open overnight. However, due to the many groups involved in managing the space—users, custodians, security, and facilities—this hasn’t been consistently feasible. The building is nearly 20 years old, and while we do annual carpet cleaning, wear and tear in high-use areas like study rooms can still lead to persistent odors. We hope future campus planning will include carpet replacement, though that depends on funding beyond the library’s budget.
Regarding fans, we’ve placed several throughout the building and several more recently and I feel we are close to our practical limit. Still, we’re open to reassessing if specific rooms are consistently uncomfortable. If you notice a room that feels unusually warm, please include the room number or location in future comments. That detail helps us work with Facilities to investigate and respond effectively. Though I am skeptical that more fans are the way forward, I will count the number we have out and consider adding a few more.
Feel free to reach out to me directly at douglas.stehle@cuanschutz.edu—I serve as the library’s building coordinator and liaison to campus Facilities. Addressing climate and airflow in the building can be tricky. To help us respond more effectively, I need to know specific study rooms you’ve experienced this in. Thanks again for helping us improve our spaces!
